Mongoose Logo
When it hit the market, in 2011, the Mongoose Logo was all the rage! It went on to become the company’s best-selling bike and, with its simplicity and low price tag, was the obvious choice for many. However, before you start yelling about how you’ve not had a good experience about it, let’s just get the word out that this is, in fact, a starter bike.
That means, you won’t get world class pedals or brakes with spine-jerking stopping power or pro-level parts. What you will get though is a bike that is strong, eases you into the world of BMX biking and lets you do almost anything your mind desires. Although, make no mistake, that doesn’t mean that the bike is a timid little puffball.
The Monster Within
From the outset, the bike sets its role out straight. It doesn’t speak of anything that it can’t do but there isn’t much that it won’t do anyway. If you are starting off in the genre or even a professional, you will appreciate Mongoose’s effort to put in some exceptional materials & parts that come as standard issue.
The cassette hub is one of the best in the world, with its short chain length, lighter setup and a size that automatically protects it from collisions and damage. The Innova tires are wonderfully wide and that means more grip and an exceptional feel that comes through, enabling you to control the bike better.
The Mongoose Logo may be a lower-end product but each and every part has been carefully chosen to ensure that it appears as anything but. The Hi-Ten handlebars are just exquisite, with their light weight alloy structure and perfect width. The bike’s grips come from Odyssey while the frame and fork are from the Hi-Ten family as well.
There have been complaints about the bike’s plastic pedals and their ability to take really hard landings. However, Mongoose made this bike for slightly softer use and if you find them wanting in strength or grip, just replace them for something better.
In terms of colours, you get black and gold while the overall bike looks quite stunning. Unsurprisingly, the Logo is quite hard to get your hands on because Mongoose just can’t seem to produce them quickly enough. They are flying off the shelves and their price might have something to do with it.
The Important Bit
For many bike enthusiasts, buying a bike isn’t just about its features, its also about the price. Once again, Mongoose have placed an exceptional product at $220, something that no other company can match. That price is almost $230 less than the average 20-inch BMX bike and around 80 bucks cheaper than other bikes that use similar materials. The company has clearly gone out of its way to produce some magic here!
You might think that at that price, the bike just cannot be as good. We thought so too, but that’s the best part – it just is! The Mongoose Logo has a way of surprising you like you’d never imagine. If you have never heard of the bike, walk into a store and take a test on it, the price tag will give you an anti-heart attack. It is a bargain and Mongoose are guaranteeing that it remains a bargain from the moment it leaves their factory floor.
Not many Logos remain in stores for long because people are lining up to get their hands on one. Since Mongoose have put in parts and features that you normally get for a lot more, this is one bike that, in its category, can be said to be utterly invincible!
