Mongoose Thrive

Flying through the air, on a BMX bike, is one of the most incredible things you can do with your clothes on. From first-timers to pros, the one thing that keeps you coming back to the arena is the insane acrobatics of those BMX daredevils. If you want to emulate the masters of BMX then the first thing you’ll need is a world class BMX bike. Enter, the Mongoose Thrive!

There is no competition when it comes to the BMX bikes under the Mongoose banner. Keeping the safety of the rider, ride-comfort and exceptional performance at the helm, the company goes about designing and manufacturing masterpieces that are as addictive as the sport they are built for. Amongst all their machines, if there is one bike that this company has built for high-flying BMX junkies, then this is it!

For a company that has been in the BMX business since 1974, the bike is an indication of how much emphasis is paid to the genre that has, since, become their bread and butter.

The Build

This is the first time that any company has gone out and created a full-Chromoly based fork setup. That can only mean one thing – more air-time and cooler tricks thanks to the added strength and support of the frame. Need more to convince yourself? How about the fact that the entire fork is one single piece?

The Mongoose Thrive also comes with a three-piece crank set that is lighter, easier to put together and lasts much longer than the regular stuff. Break any of it and replacement is easy, which also means maintenance is easy too! Oh, and its looks are smashing as well.

Massive handle bars and a well-padded seat ensure greater control and ride quality while the Odyssey pedals are a great addition to complete a scintillating package. If you are a street-biker at heart, just grab the dedicated street setup and you get two additional stunt pegs, ideal for those treacherous grinds, as well as a state-of-the-art gyro brake system.

The rims are Goliath double walls and you get Tektro alloy brakes for added safety and comfort. As with the pedals, the handle grips come from Odyssey too, while Rush provides its expertise on the brake levers.

Every single feature seems as if it has been handpicked to ensure that extra bit of ride quality or that extra bit of safety or just that little bit more performance – something that Mongoose has shown they are masters of.

The Costs

It just doesn’t get lower than this. The average 20-inch BMX bike hits the market at the $450 price range. The average cost of BMX bikes, in general, is around $440. The Mongoose Thrive is a fantastic starter bike that comes within $370 to $400; a fantastic surprise for those who are looking for something solid as well as a looker.

In that money, you get some excellent features, branded parts and a whole lot of add-on features to ensure that you never turn away from it. Depending on where you buy it from, you can get special discounts as well as lower prices than what others are selling. A wonderful bike that will put you or your parent’s mind at ease, there is little that you won’t like about it.
